Syrah from the (in)famous Poor Ranch property in the mountains east of Hopland. Destemmed. on skins until dry. and in barrel for two years.

The Poors farm their property in a way that doesnt make sense to most people. Dry farmed rootstock are planted and then grafted onto with primarily rhone varieties. Everything is dry farmed and organic. When you ride quads/4-wheelers through the property you are teleported to a different place and time. I’m reminded of southern france in 2016.

These drought vintage grapes were destemmed and left on skins until fermentation was finished, about 3.5 weeks. The resulting wine rested in barrels for two years and has been in bottle for just as long now. A dad- or grandfather-styled wine. Opulent in its youth but with the bones to age elegantly.
